Julianne’s Story

What helped you get where you are now?

  • (Classes, networking, etc.)Professor Morris' s class was the game changer for me. My minor was Marketing/Management but with one semester until graduation, I still didn't have much marketing knowledge or experience. The learn-as-we-go and learn together style of the OurFirstJobSearch direct marketing class taught me the fundamentals of marketing, how marketing is done in today's digital world, and how to further your learning and stay current through certifications and online resources.

What's the best thing about your current position?

  • My position excites me because I'm constantly surprised at what marketing can be and how different it is compared to my original thinking. I used to think it was all ads and cool graphics, but the analytical side with planning, creative problem solving, and interpersonal communication is a perfect fit for me and potentially other Comm/Event planning students.

  • Consider all the resources that you already have and don't be afraid to use them. Professors, recent grads, local professionals. Even if you are strangers to them or don't have a strong relationship, reach out anyway. You never know what expertise or opportunity they have to share. You have to network to get work.
